DICOM

The Archive Manager supports the full range of DICOM operations that are required by an archive, including many operations that are not supported by other industry archives. A DICOM conformance statement can be obtained by contacting Emageon. The archive supports all standard forms of DICOM query/retrieve services including Patient Root, Study Root, and Patient/Study Only (C-MOVE SCP, C-GET SCP, and C-FIND SCP). Both hierarchical and relational queries are also supported. It also supports all standard forms of storage (C-STORE SCU and SCP). Since the archive allows administrators to define the service classes that should be handled by a local AE, the archive can easily handle all DICOM modalities for query/retrieve and storage, including CT, CR, MR, US, NM, DR, SC, and others. The user can even define private or future service classes for modalities that are currently not known by the archive. The archive supports verification (C-ECHO as SCU and SCP). The archive handles the three native DICOM transfer syntaxes and the default JPEG transfer syntaxes: little endian implicit value representation, little endian explicit value representation, big endian explicit value representation, JPEG lossless and JPEG lossy (baseline and extended coded process 4). Private syntaxes can be handled with a small amount of custom development. Archive associations can be configured to support all the important DICOM options for associations including the number of asynchronous operations per association and the maximum protocol data unit (PDU) length.

JPEG2000 DICOM Transfer Syntax Support

Emageon supports JPEG2000 DICOM transfer syntaxes which combine very efficient lossless and lossy compression into one dataset. This offers improved compression for lossless images plus the benefits of standards-based progressive wavelet compression for WAN distribution.

Cardiology Transfer Syntax Support

Emageon also supports cardiology transfer syntaxes with JPEG lossy and lossless image compression, which includes support for echocardiography and angiography studies. Emageon maintains all cardiology imaging studies in its Enterprise Content Manager and makes them available for comparison to new studies.
